Keep your Fresh Floral Arrangements Looking Beautiful Longer
27th Jul 2015
Ordering flowers online in Albuquerque can be expensive, especially if your sweetie orders them for holidays like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. So, when you get that stunningly beautiful floral arrangement delivered to you at work or at home, you want it to stay fresh and fragrant as long as possible. We have a few tips and tricks that will help preserve your fresh cut flowers and what’s even better is that they all utilize common household items.
Aspirin
Yep, that same little pill you use to keep your headaches at bay can also be used to help preserve your fresh cut flowers. One tablet of aspirin can act as the traditional flower food that usually comes with a bouquet of flowers. Simply crush the aspirin tablet and add it to the water before the flowers, just as you would with the traditional food. Don’t forget to trim a little bit off of the flower stems every other day to help them better absorb water.
Copper Penny
You know all of those pennies you have stashed away in your junk drawer? Well, just one of those pennies can help keep your fresh floral arrangement looking beautiful for a longer period of time. Simply place one copper penny at the bottom of your vase along with a teaspoon of sugar. It is thought that the copper acts as a natural antibacterial agent, which keeps your flowers fresh and vibrant longer.
Vodka
Yeah, we found this one to be a little interesting, as well. However, according to SheKnows.com, “vodka could be responsible for inhibiting ethylene production in plants which might help in slowing wilting,” but that doesn’t mean you should run out and throw a shot in your floral arrangement. Too much vodka can ruin your flowers, so it is important to make sure that the vodka is diluted. Add a few drops to the water, along with some sugar, and this should be enough to keep your arrangement looking bright and fresh.
